Yale Forums Drayton NOT A HEAD to HEAD Match
Today was originaly a
Challenge Head To Head Match
Arranged via Yale Forums
Between myself and a Keyboard Warrior
from the site
Well in typical Keyboard Warrior Style the challenger pulled out !!
Which left it as just a normal friendly match. And in the end another 16 pulled out.But to be honest i think most just wanted to see the "Keyboard Warrior" in action as he had built himself up to be such a superstar in his own bath time
and i know a few just wanted to see the Baiter (well he is the Master) in Action.
So when he bottled it i felt sure there would be a few drop out.
So on the day there were just 8 of us left and seeing as "The Baliffe" had moved us off the boards (well i'd only booked it in January to make sure we had them) and we were the only match there we were to fish the inspireing pegs from 46 to 53 on the Dam Wall.
So with us all there we done a small draw and we ended up pegged as follows:
Peg 53 Keith A (Gandi)
Peg 52 Ade W (Slim)
Peg 51 Steve W
Peg 50 Clive P
Peg 49 Mark C
Peg 48 Tony R (Spamwham)
Peg 47 Mitch A
Peg 46 Malc D
View from Keiths Peg 53 down towards Peg 46
View from my Peg 46 back up the 50's
I'd like to now tell you all how we took the place apart but in reality we done the normal for the pegs we were on and struggled for small rewards.
Personally i had 3 fish on the sinking Bagging Wagg and weighed 32lb so was happy as i even managed to pull out of another 3 fish so with 6 fish hooked i went away happy if a little wet (yes we got thunder storms as well).
I kept haveing a look on the pole but not as much as a sniff was to be had on that line.
In the end Tony came out on top with 3 fish for 34lb which was also his first trip to Drayton
Steve also had 3 fish and his went 32lb 8oz for second
And i came home in third with my 3 fish for 32lb
Mitch had 1 fish for 11lb 8oz
Ade had 1 fish for 10lb 8oz
Keith - Clive and Mark all suffered blanksSo to summerise what started out as a 25 peg challenge match ended up an 8 peg knock up with a few friends.
Company was good - Fishing was normal for Drayton - And as for "The Baliffe" well all i'll say is British Waterways will be getting a phone call and e-mail Monday to lodge an official complaint.
And finally i'd just like to thank Peter (mugger) Morton for popping in to do the honours with his camera
and yes not long after he left the RAIN CAME DOWN.
No scheduled trips now till August 1st when it's back to Rolfs for Match 4 of THE JINX SERIES

Jinx Series Match 3 Rolfs Lake

THE JINX SERIES 2009
MATCH 3

ROLFS LAKE

WEB SITE
Please take the time to check the website above as Simon (simple) has been very bizzy recently and has added some very good features to what is looking to be a very good site.
Dont miss the NEW ROLFS LAKE PEG Picture Feature as well as the links section.
With my match last night here it ment no early loading or drive up which made a nice change.
So following yesterdays evenning/night match it was a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG WAIT for the draw to come around especially seeing as Steve and me had sat up chatting all night.
Following last nights success we were all very eager to get going which just seemed to make the wait EVEN LONGER if that was possible
finally it was time to do the draw and with everbody except Ade and myself to draw there was 2 pegs left in the bag 1 being peg 13 (my home from last night) and the other peg 14 the swim i plumbed with my chin in Match 1 of this years series.
And to be totally honest i REALLY fancied peg 13 as i knew exactly where it had been fed and as i've said before it's been a kind peg to me.
Well as you can guess Ade got 13 which left me on 14
This week we had a few JINXSTERS that could not make it so we had 4 Guests fishing and they were, Dave Webster - Vince Gould - Budgie and BaggerJ all as ever MDers.
but we still ended up 1 short as 1 JINXSTER never let me know they were not fishing.........
So off i trotted with the gear (should have left it round on 13 last night) then went round and placed half the weigh boards whilst John placed the rest.
When i finally settled on my peg i already had a good idea as to what and how i would fishing following my experience on it a month ago.
I elected on just 2 lines which was straight out infront at 6mtrs and 1 down the right margin (which i never expected to catch from).
As always my rigs were set up on .21 powerline to a size 10 Animal hook.
For the main swim at 6mtrs i set up
WAIT FOR IT
3 rigs,
of which 2 were JW Diamonds 1 being .3grm and the other being a .4grm as there is always a slight tow when the wind blows on peg 14 and laterly i've found when on the deck the fish want the pellet held still.
The other rig was a .4grm HB Redneck just in case they did not want the pellet for a switch to paste.
For the margin i just set up 1 rig which was a HB Grizzly taking .3grm.
When i started i fed the margin are by hand and used a pot to feed the forward swim first put in and i missed a bite as the float settled then second put in and moments later a net fish of about 6lb was in the net.
In the first 25 mins i had 5 net fish for about 32lb and was going great guns and feeding about 30 to 40 pellets via the pot every put in.
Then i had a call on the mobile which saw me walking around the lake which took 20 mins
and when i got back it took 2½ hours before i had another indication
as i had not fed for the time i was away and so the fish had moved away as well.
Never had a touch down the margin but finally with about 1¾ hours to go the fish finally returned to my forward line and i had 10 weighers and 2 more net fish in that time
which gave me 105lb 4oz on the board and a total weight of 152lb 12oz and 4th overall but more importantly 2nd in Section (well the series is run on section points after all)

JINX SPECIAL NIGHT MATCH friday 10th July

WEB SITEJINX SPECIAL NIGHT MATCH
ROLFS LAKE
OXFORD
Friday 10th JulyEver since i first mentioned the possibility of John allowing me to run a special late evening - night match, way back in August last year most have been waiting for this to come around as without fail EVERY TIME a match finishes at Rolfs the fish feed with gay abandon so everyone expected this match to fish it's head off with fishing being from 6.30pm till 11.30pm
Well read on and see how it all panned out
My own preparation for this match really started last week when i sorted out gas bottles and a cooker for cooking dinner, and nearly forgot i also sorted out a couple of rigs with thick tipped floats to take a starlight (lots of prep)
I've fished the pole a fair few times over the years at night and to be perfectly honest it's no different to fishing it during the day with the exception of needing a thick tipped float to take a starlight and the rigs i tied were my standard .21 Powerline to a 10 Animal Hook and the floats i chose were JW stumpy things taking .3grm.
And to be totally honest that was all the pre match preperation i done.
So nothing new really.
With the draw being a rolling draw from 4.00pm (ish) and fishing being from 6.30 till 11.30 i loaded the car nice and early and was on my way to pick Mitch at 11am for a steady drive up as i wanted to get there early so that i could sort every thing out without the need to rush.
Well just on 2pm i pulled into the car park and went straight over and dipped my nets to give them a chance to dry, then went off for a chat with Eddie as he was lake watching for John and also chat with Jon H who was already there with his tent all set up.Now around 7.30pm John could be seen walking along the car park bank with some flood lights
With everyone arriving in good time it was soon time to start the draw and although there is always a buzz on any match i've fished at Rolfs this 1 was a bit different and the normal buzz in the air was even biggerthan normal aseveryone wondered just how this the first ever Night Match at Rolfs would go.
With the draw all sorted and everyone making their way to their swims i sat and sorted out the weigh sheets then went off to put some at the weigh stations as John went in the other direction and placed the others.
My home for the evenning was Peg 13 which is a peg i've fished a fair bit in the past and this will be the 3rd time this year i've drawn it and although some dont like the peg i really like it as it's been kind to me on more occasions than not.
My plan today was simple and consisted of just 2 lines to fish the first was at 6mtrs straight in front (and to be honest i hoped not to have to fish this for to long), this swim was around 5ft deep.
My second swim was 4mtrs down my right margin just on the rise of the slope about 3ft from the bank into 2½ft of water and this i hoped would be my main catching area as the evenning went on.
Thinking back it's strange really that i intended to fish the margin for the best part of the match as this year i've not really caught from the margins in any peg (other than this 1 )
Any way i shouted the all in at 6.30 and in true JINX fashion i was not ready (truth be known i had not actually even put my box on the peg yet.
When i was finally ready (which was just on 7pm some things just wont change)
i put 1 bag of pellet in the swim in front and 2 bags down on my margin swim.
Then went in with an 8mm banded pellet on the swim in front and with a little lifting and dropping had my first indication within 5 mins which turned out to be a foul hooker that left me wit scale.
2 put ins later i connected and landed my first fish which was a net fish of about 6lb so i was off the mark and in the next 2 hours i fed a hand full of pellets into each swim about every 5 mins and took 2 more net fish from the swim infront but nothing from the margin.
which he sited at the bottom and top ends of the car park bank and also in the small lake ready for when it got dark.
And these are the spot lights (picture courtesy of Clive)
Around 8pm i hooked and landed a skimmer which as i'd not had a weigher i said sod it i'm going to have a fish on the board and wandered off down to the scales to weigh it in
with much abuse from Jon H

Just afterwards i noticed a bit of movement from my margin area so went in there with an 8mm banded pellet and almost straight away a proper fish was on and netted which went 11lb 12oz (that skimmer had done the trick)
Then with the light failing in my margin just on 8.30 i broke the starlight so i could see the float and took another 3 net fish in the next 3 put ins which ment by 9pm i had about 35lb so far so definatly not takeing the place apart but i never do.
A few mins after 9pm John shouted "Lights are going on" then he switched them on and instantly it was like sitting in the middle of the day with the sun directly in the eyes as 1 of the flood lights was directly opposite me
so sunglasses went on hat tilted to the side and eyes half shut and i carried on.
Took another 10 mins before i had another bite (i'd guess the light well and truly upsett the fish) and then i had 4 foul hookers 1 after the other but by adding a lot more feed to the margin i then started to hook a few more properly with Eddie being around to witness and photograph the 11lb 12oz darnkness caught Mirror below.
I added a couple more weighers and i more net fish for a total of 11 Carp 112lb 8oz which was good enough for 3rd in my 7 peg section and 13th overall.
I fed a total of 3 bags of 6mm pellet in the swim in front and 6 bags of the same into my margin.
Gem not to be out done by her old man also had a 11lb 8oz Common and again thanks to Eddie for the picture below

Match Fishing Scene @ Rolfs 26th June
Well it's back to Rolfs today for a friday Afternoon match arranged by Ian (eels) from Match Fishing Scene and with the draw at 1pm and fishing 3 till 8 hopefully a few fish will grace the nets.
Also with the amount due to fish (27) although only 23 turned up this match is Pole Only which is how i prefer it at Rolfs in the Summer.
With today being a School day and Julie off work it's just me in the car, well thats as far as Pontypridd any way as Mitch jumped in there as he wanted to spend the day watching and learning from some of the regulars that are fishing today and no that did NOT include me.
So at 8.30am with the car loaded off i set to Ponty for Mitch. Then it was a steady drive up to Rolfs through LOADS of speed restrictions and pouring rain which saw us parked up outside the gate just on 11.00am (YES EARLY AGAIN)
Soon as John arrived and unlocked the gates it was off to dip the nets and give them a chance to dry then to the hut for some BANTER as more had turned up and before long it was time for the draw.
I had my normal opinion on which peg i would like to draw today and that was ANY PEG would do for me as i fish them all the same way so it never matters to me as i can do bad off any of them.
So my turn to draw came and in the bag i went and out came Peg 16 which is on the Motorway bank and a peg i've fished a few times before over the years and had some good weights off it so i was happy with that.
So gear loaded and off i trundle, at a better pace than recently as i've got the tyre sorted on the barrow now.
Following the customary sit watching the water with a fag and coffee (and the odd finger jesture towards Steve W sat opposite on peg 23 who i just happened to have a £ side bet with) i settled on the following swims for todays attention.
All my rigs are tied to .21 Powerline with a 10 Animal Hook.
Swim 1 (O1 in the picture) was at about 7 mtrs straight infront into around 6' of water.
For Swim 1 i set up a .3grm JW Diamond float shotted with spread no 8 and 10 stotz's
Swim 2 (M1 in picture) was just in front of the bush to my left into about 3½' of water and had a .3grm HB Grizzly with a bulk of no 8 stotz'sSwim 3 (M2 in picture) was to my right margin about 3' from the bank into 3' of water at a distance of about 5mtrs and for this i used a .2grm HB Grizzly
Baits for today was as is normal for me at Rolfs which is a selection of banded 6mm - 8mm - 11mm hard pellets as well as a few 11mm soft hookers and Punched Meat and for feed i used 7 bags of dampened fishery pellets.
For a change i was all set up and ready with over ½ hour to go and went for a chat with Steve W who was on peg 23 and whilst there i took the following picture which afterwards seamed very apt.
At the all in i shipped out to 6mtrs with about 20 pellets in the toss pot and lowered a 8mm Banded Pellet through the sinking pellet, then put a handfull of pellet in both my margin swims and waited and waited and then waited some more.
Seeing as the float was shall we say a little stationary i took a few pictures whilst waiting (not many were any good though as the sun was in my face, but here's a couple of shots to break up your boredom.
PAUL NETTING A FISH ON PEG 32
And for the first 2½ hours i still waited and went through every bait and combination on the table and they all resulted in the same NOTHING
Then at 5.30 i started getting a few liners and foul hooked fish which all resulted in still nothing in the nets, it really was feeling like dejaview of my last trip to rolfs
and i really thought i was on for a blank.
But luckily i was WRONG as just on 6pm i finally landed a foul hooker and although it was a real baby for Rolfs as it was only about 1½lb IT WAS STILL A FISH IN THE NET.
In the next ½ hour i managed to land 2 more net fish which i guessed gave me about 12lb but going by what i could see others doing i was actually doing okay
although Chris on 26 was sacking up all day nobody else was doing much.
Then it just went dead again with not even any liners again until 7.30 when the float shot away and as it turned out the fish switched on with ½ hour to go and in those final 30 mins i went on to net another 6 fish which i guessed gave me about 52lb so i was actually happy with the way it ended up although it would have been better if they had started to feed earlier.
All my fish came from my long swim with not even aliner in either margin.
Mitch appeared at my peg just after the match ended and said it had fished pretty hard all around with only a couple in the little lake and Chris on 26 catching well and when the scales arrived he was proved correct with Ian on peg 8 putting 201lb 4oz on the scales and Jon W with 190lb 12oz from peg 4 so far.
My fish finally pushed the scales round to 51lb 8oz which as it turned out was good enough for 6th overall
and i also took the £ from Steve as he only managed 30lb+.
Not got the full results so for now here's the top 6 and as soon as i get the rest i'll add them.Chris Telling Peg 26 209lb 8oz.
Ian McCulloch Peg 8 201lb 4oz
Jon Walker Peg 4 190lb 12oz
Pat Pritchard Peg 9 91lb 4oz
Fred Parker Peg 14 71lb 8oz
Malc Doyle Peg 16 51lb 8oz
So there ends another slow day at the office but i still enjoyed the day
Next trip is you guessed it back at Rolfs but this will be an all NEW EXPERIENCE for Rolfs as it is my JINX SPECIEL NIGHT MATCH
and thats on Friday 10th july with match 3 of THE JINX SERIES on the Saturday so if nothing else it will be a FUN couple of matches.

Maggotdrowning Individual Championships 2009

MAGGOTDROWNING.COM
INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009
MAVER LARFORD
MATCH LAKE
Saturday 20th June
Well today it's the turn of Maver Larford that has to suffer the misfortune of my company on the bank along with 37 other maggotdrowners (poor sods)
With members being spread all over the UK the MD's Individual Match is normally fished some where around the Midlands so it's centrally located for all to get to and this is the second time Larford has been the venue. last time this was held at Larford we fished the Specimen lake and to be honest i thought it was an average venue and one i would not be likely to return too (no real reason i just did not really like the place).
Well this year we are on The Match Lake so i thought i'd give it another go as it's been a couple of years since the first visit and maybe i would feel different about it now plus it was a different lake on the complex. So on with todays trip and the fishing.
Seeing as Julie (the wife) has been up in Scotland this week and dont arrive home till the match was due to start i'd put my head on the chopping block and said she could catch the train home from the airport so that i could still fish the match, yes i got a bit of stick but thats nothing new and the making up is always good.

So for the trip it was Liam and Myself and we traveled up in Dai's motor. A smooth 2 hours and a little bit drive saw us arriving at Larford just on 8.30am A FULL 1 HOUR EARLY for the draw
Being this early gave us plenty of time to get the nets dipped and dried as well as time for all the meet and greets and a bit of grub as well
Soon it was time for the draw and Dai drew peg 29 on the near bank so i gave Simon (Me) my pools money and asked him to draw me a peg whilst i took Dai's trolley to his peg for him.
When i got back Vince and Simon told me i was on peg 55 on the far bank by the island so off i set with Liam in tow around the lake
and of course as i pasted everyone i gave a bit of verbal as always.
When i finally arrived at my peg to say i was SURPRISED is an understatement as just about every swim i had walked past had a patch of lilies in the margin which did look nice but just plain open water in front with no above water features, you can see for yourself in the picture below WHY i liked the look of my swim.

PEG 55

Dont that look niceWell it never took me long to settle on what i was going to do and although i had mixed up 4kg of groundbait to fish the method on friday night, that stayed put in the bucket as i just set up 2 pole swims as i knew if i set up the method then i would not fish the pole swims as effectively as i could.
Rigs were simple and proberly the heaviest anyone used on the day (but thats me all over)
and were as follows:
RIG 1 was for the left margin (marked M1 on the picture below) and was a .1grm HillBilly Grizzly tied to .24 Powerline to a 10 Animal hook with 2 size 10 stotz spread over the last 6" of the rig, this swim was about 2 foot deep.
RIG 2 was fished at about 11 o'clock to a branch of the sunken tree (marked O1 on the picture below) and consisted of a .3grm Grizzly with bulked size 8 stotz set 4" from the hook which was again a size 10 Animal and line again was .24 Powerline and this swim was about 3ft deep.
Elastics for both rigs was 20 solid (but rig 2 did get changed for a tightish 25 hollow after my first fish)My 2 Swims
Now no matter where you look almost everything you read regards larford is it's Pellet - Pellet and more Pellet as feed and mostly fishing UITW well with me NOT being a SHEEP and following the crowd my attack for today was MEAT - MEAT and MORE MEAT.
I took with me 10 tins of cubed meat which consisted of 4 tins of Plumrose, 2 tins of Princes, 2 tins of Kings and 2 tins of Tulip (all Luncheon Meat) all of which were rough cubed to 6mm and mixed together then coated in ZM for added attraction
plus a tin of Plumrose for punching hook baits.
Before anyone asks i use those brands as i know exactley at what rates they each sink and also know how they actually act when in the water and they all do different things and sink at different rates.
All the meat was bagged into 5 bags as i intended to feed a bag an hour, so if they wanted Meat then i would catch but if they wanted Pellet then i would blow out.
Well i called the all in for Vince at 11am as in his words " I've got a BIGGER GOB than him"
and before i sat down to fish i took a quick snap of poor Fish4Alarf on the next peg and Bungee next door as they fed for the first time.
Then i sat on my box and fed a full BIG pot of meat into each swim then shipped out to my long line (well it was 6mtrs out)
and less than 2 mins later Liam took the picture below of my first fish a Fantail of about 2lb
Soon as that went in the net i got off the box and put my bib n brace on as it soaked my legs
and next put in resulted in the fish below.
Which was a Common about 4lb
Then i missed a few but soon Liam took the following pictures (the batteries ran out after that so luck for you lot no more pictures)
and then Liam fell asleep for 2 hours.

Just after 1pm Liam woke up and wanted the toilet and a walk so with 20 Carp in the nets (for what i guessed to be 40lb) we went off for an hours walk to the cafe and to annoy anyone we could.
To cut a long story short i got back to my swim with 2 hours to go re-fed and second put in was back into the fish and in the last 2 hours put another 21 Carp in the nets to end up with 89lb 12oz (which included 4 silvers)
which was good enough for 4th overall and a section win.
I ended up feeding 7 tins of meat and caught just 3 fish from the margin swim and they were the smallest of the carp i had going about ½lb each with all the rest coming from the further swim.
Hook bait wise i only used meat but did have to swop between different sized cubed and punched after every fish other wise there was no bites and also to cut through the Green Alge scum on the surface i cupped in 12 bits of meat every putin and then ½ a cup every 10 mins.
That just leaves me to say WELL DONE to Vince for running it and to ALL the MDers for going nice to see some old faces as well a few new one's.
Still dont like Larford though if the truth be told.
But i did enjoy the day
Next trip is this coming Friday and it's back to Rolfs with the MFS lads.
